About Alderney

Alderney is the Channel Islands for people who like their islands with the edges left on. The island sits just eight miles from the coast of Normandy, and the tides and winds that race through the Alderney Race — one of the most powerful tidal flows in the world — have shaped both the landscape and the character of the people here. The town of St Anne is all Georgian granite, cobbled streets, and pubs that serve until they're done. The island has the densest population of puffins in the British Isles — Gannet Rock is home to tens of thousands of birds in summer. The WWII fortifications are extraordinary — Alderney was the only British territory to be fully evacuated and occupied by German forces.
