Ask me anything about the Channel Islands — hotels, events, itineraries, getting there.
Herm is the smallest inhabited island in the Channel Islands and one of the most perfectly formed. A short ferry ride from Guernsey, it has no cars, no bikes, and no hurry. The island is dominated by Shell Beach on its north-east coast, a sweep of pale sand made entirely of crushed sea shells collected here over millennia by the tides. The White House Hotel is the only accommodation on the island — staying there is genuinely special, a proper escape. Day trippers are welcome and the pubs and cafes are friendly, but Herm rewards those who stay the night and have the island almost entirely to themselves once the day boats have left.
Ferry from St Peter Port, Guernsey (20 minutes). Day trips or overnight stays.
